One call. Inspected, repaired and installed, properly.
KMOG Fire Door Services handles the whole job: compliance inspections, remedial repairs and new installations. A time-served carpenter does the making-good that most fire door firms can't do themselves.
The one-stop shop for fire door compliance
Working to FD30 and FD60 standards for landlords, letting agents, HMOs, housing associations and small commercial premises across Herts and North London.
Inspections
Full compliance inspections against current guidance. Gaps, seals, hinges, hardware and glazing are checked, with a clear written report you can hand straight to your fire risk assessor or building control.
Remedial work
Where a door falls short, I fix it, not just swap parts. Frames, closers, seals, vision panels and, where the job calls for it, proper carpentry to make good the surrounding wall or reveal.
New installations
Supply and fit of new certified fire doorsets for refurbishments, conversions and HMOs, hung and finished to a standard that holds up to inspection, not just a quick glance.
Anatomy of a compliant fire door
- FD30-certified door leaf. The certification plate confirms the fire rating (usually stamped into the top edge).
- Fire and smoke seals. Intumescent strip and brush seal, continuous all the way round the frame.
- Three CE-marked, fire-rated hinges (BS EN 1935) with intumescent pads underneath.
- Fire-rated self-closer. CE marked, closes and latches the door fully every time.
- "Fire door keep shut" sign, about three-quarters of the way up the door.
- Gap tolerances: 2–4mm at the head and sides, no more than 8mm at the threshold.
Fire door expertise, built on real carpentry
Most fire door jobs aren't just a door swap. There's making good to the frame, alterations to the wall, or a reveal that's never been square. I've worked as a carpenter since 2009, and I sort all of that as part of the job, not as an extra call-out. I'm working toward BM TRADA accreditation, funded by the work itself.

Jake was really professional and reliable. He managed to fit me in at short notice, turned up when he said he would, and made sure the job was done properly. He takes pride in his work and I'd happily recommend Jake to anyone debating using him! Thanks again!
Verified customer
I used this company to install fire doors in my HMO properties. Jake was so polite, helpful and thorough in his work. My doors and frames look fantastic. I was so pleased and would fully recommend him and definitely use him again.
Claire, HMO landlord
I had a good experience with Jake. Sent him my fire assessment for the building and was given a quote promptly with the job well done and completed in the next few days. Very professional and reliable. Would definitely recommend and use him again.
Shereen Khan, Local Guide
The job was over two hours away, but that wasn't an issue at all. Jake rectified a number of our fire doors, bringing them fully up to compliance, with excellent workmanship throughout. He also provided a very comprehensive report, incredibly useful for our compliance requirements.

Fire door compliance, in plain terms
Is fire door inspection actually a legal requirement?
In England, yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the "responsible person" must keep fire safety measures, including fire doors, in efficient working order. Since the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, residential buildings over 11m must also have flat entrance doors checked annually and communal fire doors at least every 3 months. Rules differ in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Not sure what applies to your building? Ask me.
What do I get after an inspection?
A clear written report covering every door checked: what passed, what didn't, and what's needed to put it right. No jargon, no unnecessary work recommended.
Can you just fix what's wrong, rather than replace the whole door?
Usually, yes. Most fire door failures come down to seals, hinges, closers or hardware, all repairable. A full replacement is only needed when the door itself won't take repair.
Do you charge for quotes?
No. Get in touch with what you need and I'll give you a straightforward, no-obligation quote.
